The duty to arbitrate generally stems from a contractual relationship. Here, Alliance Packaging LLC and Seattle Packaging Corporation (Seattle Packaging) on the one hand, and Gordon Holmquist and Packaging Alternatives Corporation (Packaging Alternatives) on the other, first objectively manifested their intent to be bound by a final written agreement to sell assets in August 2001. That written agreement contained an arbitration clause. Accordingly, those parties are bound to arbitrate. And the joinder of third party defendants to this action does not bar arbitration between the parties to the written agreement. We reverse the trial courts denial of the motion to compel arbitration, and remand for further proceedings.
